Toolstation
Toolstation is a major multi-channel retailer offering an extensive range of tools, accessories, and building supplies for tradespeople, DIY enthusiasts, and self-builders. The company was founded in 2002 by Mark Goddard-Watts with the ambition to provide unrivalled value and convenience for its customers. It was acquired by the Travis Perkins Group in 2012 and now operates from over 550 trade counters across the UK, the Netherlands, France & Belgium.
We were invited to tender for the lighting with their UK stores as part of an energy saving initiative, replacing old fluorescent and HID luminaires with the latest LED alternatives. They were looking for innovative solutions that were quick to install and easy to maintain. In the storage aisles the specification called for a high vertical illuminance with good uniformity across the front face of the racking to assist the store operatives when picking parts for orders. In addition to this it called for occupancy sensors within the aisles to minimise energy consumption when not in use.
Working directly with the team at Toolstation and their appointed electrical contractors we trialled a number of different solutions before settling on 3-circuit track with linear mounted EPK battens and our on-board R44 sensors. The track itself was supplied in 3m lengths making it quick to retro-fit into existing stores and the 180˚ opal optic of the batten provided a broad polar distribution, helping to evenly illuminate the racks. To compliment this we installed our Coulis 70 track spots to provide accent lighting to the end displays along with our MOD Edge panels to the trade counter areas. Toolstation were happy with the finished result and we have since supplied lighting to stores across their UK estate.
